Philosophical Coaching works on an educational model of personal development and self-understanding, and as such, is particularly suited for group sessions.

In group philosophical coaching, participants can not only talk with me, but also, learn from and share their growth with a community. In each Group Coaching session, I give a short lesson on a philosophical theme and then lead a discussion in which you are welcome to share your thoughts and bring your experiences to bear on the conversation. If you’re new to philosophical coaching, learn more here.

Upcoming Group Coaching Sessions

  • Gratitude — THURSDAY, July 18, 7:00-8:30PM

Gratitude is, at its heart, a practice not only of recognizing the good things in life, but of re-cognizing our life story into one of meaning at purpose. How do we learn to be grateful? And why should we?

  • The Wisdom of the Oppressed — Thursday, August 8, 7:00-8:30PM

Sometimes the experience of being in an oppressed group, whether it be defined by race, gender, class, age, etc., can provide a different perspective and special wisdom, what W.E.B. Dubois called “double consciousness.” How do we gain this wisdom as members of oppressed groups, and how do we learn it even when we are outside those groups?

  • WHo Am i? A Buddhist Perspective — Wednesday, August 28, 7:00-8:30PM

One of the fundamental Buddhist tenants is that there is no self, no soul, nothing beyond the temporary, changing physical and mental processes of this being right now. What does this mean for how we should see ourselves? How can this help us live more fearless lives?

All sessions are located in inner east side Portland. If you are interested in joining a Group Coaching session, you should first book a Free 30-minute Phone Consultation to determine if group coaching is right for you. Just choose FREE 30-minute Phone Consultation from the menu on my booking page.

In addition to being more affordable than individual coaching, there are many benefits to group coaching sessions:

Benefits of Group Coaching

  1. Realize You’re Not Alone:

In hearing the stories and struggles of others, you experience—in a concrete and immediate way—that other people are dealing with the same confusions, disappointments, and dreams that you are.

  2. See What Works:

In seeing what works for other people and hearing their stories of transformation, you can learn from them and know that positive changes are possible for you too.

  3. Share Successes:

As you deepen your self-understanding, you can share what you’ve learned with others, both to celebrate the positive changes you’ve made and to contribute to the growth and well-being of others.

Group Coaching FAQs

What happens during a group coaching session?

Group coaching sessions are 90 minutes long. We will start each session by going over group guidelines and setting intentions. I will then give a short lesson on a philosophical theme and then lead a discussion in which you are welcome to share your thoughts and bring your experiences to bear on the conversation. See upcoming sessions and themes above.

How many people are in a group?

Group size may vary from week to week, but each session will include a maximum of eight people and a minimum of two people, (plus me).

I don’t feel comfortable sharing with the group. Do I have to talk?

No. You may choose to pass during your sharing time. However, if you do not talk several weeks in a row, I will check in with you to ensure that the group sessions are serving you. I may suggest one or more individual coaching sessions in place of or as a transition to group sessions.

All participants will be required to sign a written agreement to confidentiality, and other group guidelines, each session.

my issues may be too specific for group coaching. Will it work for me?

Your issues may be more universal than you think. Although it is true that we all have different experiences, so many of us deal with the same core issues. You may be surprised to see your fundamental fears and feelings reflected in several other stories. This experience can be incredibly affirming. If, at any point, you want more one-on-one conversation with me, I invite you to schedule individual coaching sessions with me instead of, or in addition to, group coaching. To begin, you can book a free 30-minute phone consultation to determine the best fit for you.

Do you offer group coaching remotely?

I do not currently offer remote Group Coaching sessions, but if you are interested in this, please contact me, as I may offer it with enough interest. Your inquiry may be the tipping point!

Do you have groups specifically for moms?

Many of my clients are mothers, but not all of them are. Thus, for now, I do not have a mom-specific group. However, I do offer a Meaning of Motherhood course, which grapples with the big issues of motherhood. See my page For Moms to see upcoming workshops and other resources specifically tailored to moms.

Do you offer group coaching for organizational events and workshops?

Yes. If you would like to schedule a Philosophical Group Coaching session for your organization’s workshop or event, please contact me to discuss the details.

How does scheduling work? Do I have to Commit to a certain number of weeks?

There is no commitment needed for a minimum number of sessions. However, you can buy sessions in bundles for a more affordable option. As with individual coaching, you will schedule your attendance in advance. And, to ensure a committed and productive meeting, all those participating in a group session will be held to the same 24-hour cancellation policy as is used for individual coaching.

What Does Group Coaching Cost?

Group coaching sessions may be purchased individually or in bundles, for a discount. See my rates page for details on individual and bundle costs.

How Do I get Started?

You can get started by contacting me for a free 30-minute phone consultation, to determine if group philosophical coaching is right for you. To book one, just choose FREE 30-minute phone consultation from the menu on my booking page.
